Ok so boom,
once I realized I wasn’t gonna make it past 5’3, I knew I couldn’t live out my WNBA hoop dreams. What I have known for a very long time though is that I really enjoy working out and want a career in sports.
*DJ SCRATCH* fast forward, my love for sports, fitness, and human anatomy led me to getting my Kinesiology degree with a concentration in Applied Exercise Science from CSUB in the lovely Central Valley. In my final semester, I snagged myself an incredible opportunity to intern with the athletic trainers at Bakersfield College. Everything I’ve learned about injury prevention, day-to-day injury rehabilitation, and strengthening exercises in that training room, I apply to my workout programs. I moved back home to Valencia post-grad and was a personal trainer at LA Fitness (we don’t know her anymore) until COVID hit. Training at a franchise gym introduced me to working with different age demographics and many physical limitations due to age, wear and tear, and injury.
My goal is to make moving and physical activity to feel like a vital part of your life, not just to look good, but really feel good. I LIVE for the euphoric feeling post-workout. (You’re like...”I’m sorry I’m unfamiliar with that feeling,” trust me, we’ll unearth it.) It is truly never too late to start working out. Everyone has starts somewhere! Please don’t be afraid to hit me up, lezzz get to work!!!!! YEEEEERRRR!!!!!!

“Joanne made it possible for me to move again! Last year after my gym closed and I remained idle for months due to Covid, I lost a lot of strength and gained weight, too. Fortunately, Joanne told me she could still work with me as a personal trainer. After a few sessions, I was floored; Joanne’s sessions were twice as long as they allowed her in the gym, yet half the cost, and she put the extra time to expert and efficient use. For the first time in two years, I regained strength in my atrophied quads; I had feared I wouldn’t be able to perform well as a ski instructor due to all my arthritis and weakness, but my workouts with Joanne saw me past the terrible stage. For the first time in two years, I began rock climbing again! I could ride my bike in and out of doors and ski with far more confidence, enough to make teaching easy. It was all due to Joanne’s specialized knowledge of anatomy and physical therapy—no therapist or trainer had been able to improve my quad strength or balance before Joanne. She knew precisely how I should stretch in advance, how to train my atrophied quads, and how to build them up to the point that I could finally engage in the strenuous activities I thought I was doomed never to enjoy again. In addition to her skill, she is gifted with a sense of empathy and humor that makes our workouts fun. I cannot recommend Joanne highly enough as a personal trainer, coach, and mentor!

“The last time I was confidently fit was in high school when I played basketball and ran cross country. As an adult, I’ve done Orange Theory, private trainers, online programs, but they were all missing empathy. Joanne’s prep research before the workout is what makes her so unique. She has a holistic approach. She sought to understand my vulnerabilities and lifestyle. She listens. With full-time Grad School and a full-time job, I have negative time to devote to working out. Joanne figured it all out for me.
And she shows results! Joanne is like the teacher you want to impress and make proud. She believes in me more than I believe in myself. She makes herself available throughout the day and never repeats a workout - I appreciated this the most because you have zero expectations but such profound results. I was building muscle I didn’t even know existed. (And I was sore in places I didn’t know I had muscle). My posture improved, my backaches went away, my sleep improved, and I finally felt strong.
